On Thursday 14 April 2016, the United Nations and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) will hold an open briefing on #StopTerrorFinance: Countering the financing of terrorism and depriving terrorist groups, particularly Al-Qaida, ISIL (Da’esh) and their affiliates, from their sources of funding.
FATF President Je-Yoon Shin will deliver a keynote speech during this open briefing, which will be chaired by two UN Committees: the Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee established pursuant to resolution 1373 (2001) and the Security Council 1267/1989/2253 ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee. The open briefing provides an opportunity for the two UN Committees, UN Members and FATF to discuss new and emerging terrorist financing trends, and to highlight initiatives including with the private sector to help States enhance their information-sharing and thereby strengthen global efforts to prevent and counter terrorism financing.
