In the US, Emma Coronel Aispuro, the 31-year-old wife of the leader of the Mexican drug trafficking organization Sinaloa Cartel (Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera) has pleaded guilty to international drug trafficking, money laundering and violation of the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act (FNKDA).
Coronel Aispuro, a dual US-Mexican citizen, has pleaded guilty to three charges. She conspired to distribute more than five kilograms cocaine, over one kilogram heroin, over 500 grams methamphetamine, and over 1000 kilograms marijuana in the US, Mexico, and other jurisdictions. She was also aware that these drugs would be imported into the US in an illegal manner.
Further, Coronel Aispuro conspired with others to launder the proceeds of drug trafficking. She also violated the penalties of the FNKDA by conducting transactions related to her husband’s property. Coronel Aispuro will receive her sentence on September 15, 2021.
