In an ongoing investigation, the UK’s Metropolitan Police has performed one of the largest cryptocurrency seizures worldwide. The seized cryptocurrency amounts to over £180 million ($248m). Detectives in the Metropolitan Police’s Economic Crime Command conducted the seizures based on intelligence they had received about transactions involving illicit assets.
It is notable that in June 2021, the Metropolitan Police had conducted another large cryptocurrency seizure worth £114 million ($162m).
At that time, the Metropolitan Police had arrested a 39-year-old woman on suspicion of ML. The authorities have now questioned this woman out of caution. Both investigations are parts of an ongoing investigation into international ML.
