The ECOFEL has published a report titled “Financial Investigations into Wildlife Crime” to provide financial intelligence units (FIUs) and related stakeholders a detailed understanding of how FIUs can aid financial investigations into wildlife crime such as illegal wildlife trade.
The ECOFEL report first lists the species and industries most vulnerable to illegal wildlife trade. It also explains the importance of financial investigations into wildlife crime and the role of FIUs for combating the illegal financial flows of this transnational crime.
The ECOFEL report further talks about how FIUs can collaborate with law enforcement agencies, environmental agencies, NGOs and other organizations to better understand wildlife crime and support financial investigations in this area. The report discusses many case studies exemplifying the successful collaboration between FIUs and other agencies during financial investigations about wildlife trafficking.
