An upmarket Rome restaurant popular with British and American celebrities has been shut down by police on suspicion of being used as a front for money laundering.
British actors Tim Roth and Gerard Butler and US stars such as Robert de Niro, Al Pacino and Sylvester Stallone have all been photographed dining at Assunta Madre, a renowned seafood restaurant in Rome’s historic centre.
Gianni Micalusi, the owner of the restaurant, known to his foreign customers as “Johnny”, was arrested by police and remanded in custody.
