There has been an increase in financial crimes that target senior citizens, police say.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says it is investigating several recent incidents in which thieves have contacted older people to try to bilk them of money by learning personal or financial information.
“These perpetrators are specifically targeting seniors at retirement housing and assisted living locations,” KDPS reported in a press release. “They are posing as a bank employee or representative, requesting credit card or bank account information, and promising lower interest rates and other incentives for the information.”
