Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said Monday the political system in Albany “looks pretty terrible” following the convictions of former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and ex-State Sen. Majority Leader Dean Skelos for corruption.
Silver was found guilty last month of receiving kickbacks through secret arrangements with two law firms. The trial shined a spotlight on the conflicts of interest and extreme secrecy at the heart of Silver’s schemes.
