A U.S. Army colonel is accused of laundering money through a not-for-profit intended to benefit Haitians.
Joseph Baptiste, 64, of Fulton, Maryland allegedly offered to funnel bribes to the Haitian government through his not-for-profit on behalf of businessmen interested in securing approval for an $84 million port development project, authorities said.
He was arrested and charged with conspiring to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and to commit money laundering this week. He was scheduled to appear in federal court in Maryland on Tuesday.
