The Cyber Crime Unit of Lincolnshire Police, UK has seized cryptocurrency worth over £2 million ($2.74m) in an ML investigation.
During this investigation, the authorities charged a 17-year-old with fraud and ML. They arrested the boy in August 2020 after receiving intelligence reports from Action Fraud and Crimestoppers. In April 2020, the teenager committed credit card fraud and stole personal information with the intention of defrauding a digital gift voucher company out of £6,000 ($8,211).
Further investigation revealed ML through cryptocurrency, ultimately leading to the seizure of over 48 Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. The teenager has been sentenced to a youth rehabilitation order.
