The Gambling Commission of the UK has levied a fine of £5.85 million ($8.09m) on the interactive gaming company Daub Alderney for social responsibility and AML failures. The company, which runs several gambling websites, has also received a formal warning for failures that transpired between January 2019 and March 2020.
Meanwhile, the company’s social responsibility failures included failing to implement policies and procedures for customer interaction when a customer’s gambling activity is concerning and indicates problem gambling. For instance, the company let one customer lose £43,410 ($60,058) in a span of four months even though there was clear indication of problem gambling. In another case, the company sent only one ‘safer gambling’ reminder message to a customer who lost £39,000 ($53,956) within 3.5 months.
Daub Alderney’s AML failures included inadequate AML/CFT policies and controls. For example, the company allowed one customer to deposit £50,000 ($69,175) before verifying the source of funds. With this stringent action against Daub Alderney, the Gambling Commission of the UK has warned gambling operators of consequences of AML/CFT failures even if they transpired before their ownership.
