Officials are pushing back on claims by Rep. Darrell Issa that a DEA money-laundering operation may have carried the hallmarks of the failed Fast and Furious gunrunning probe, both of which are now under investigation by the top Republican congressman.
After the DEA put out a statement defending the program, a law enforcement source told Fox News on Wednesday that the Mexican government was on board with the operation, which helped drug cartels launder money with the goal of tracing that money through complex illicit financing networks.
“Issa missed the boat on this one. He has no idea how much oversight there is and he has no idea that we’ve been doing this for years with the blessing and involvement of Mexico,” the source told Fox News, adding that some U.S. lawmakers had blessed the operation as well.
